Celebrating Small Business Month
October is Small Business Month, and Scotia Kelp is recognizing it by reflecting on the value of strong relationships.
Secondary education is a big part of the foundation for small businesses and economic growth, and we’re proud to support the next generation of business leaders through our Partners for Success Initiative with Eastern College.
We’ve had the pleasure of working with talented interns from Eastern College, and their energy, creativity, and dedication have left a lasting impact on our company. Watching them grow and contribute has been inspiring, and we’re grateful for the chance to be part of their journey, and they are a part of our journey as well.
As a small business, the interns give us fresh perspectives, their education on up-to-date tools, and share their valuable knowledge. By allowing interns to show and hone their skills in a positive workplace environment, giving them real-world practical experience, they have made significant contributions to various aspects of our company, and we truly value and appreciate their input.
Receiving the 2024 Employer of the Year award from Eastern College was an incredible full-circle moment for the founder of Scotia Kelp Products, Darron Hill, who is a former student. We strongly believe that giving back, sharing knowledge, and working together to achieve a common goal helps develop strong alliances and builds bridges between educators and the small business community. In this ever-changing and uncertain time, by working together, we can promote, support, and grow our small business sector, which is essential to the health and vitality of all Canadian communities.
Meet our amazing interns!
Through Eastern College, Scotia Kelp Products has been thrilled to be able to work with numerous interns who exhibited strong entrepreneurial spirits. With a little guidance and coaching, some of our interns have embarked on small business journeys themselves, and we’re excited to watch their continued growth and celebrate their successes.

Recognizing October 10th: World Mental Health Day
Mental Health and wellness should be a priority everyday.
Everyone needs help in their lives, and especially now in these trying times. So when you’re down and out, overwhelmed with doubt, remember this—you’re not alone. Life can be overwhelming at times, and it's okay to feel tired, lost, or stuck.
In this fast- paced, ever changing environment, maintaining our mental health and physical wellbeing is so important. Like the two sides of the same coin, each aspect of health directly influences the other in powerful ways.
Building healthy habits in one area often leads to improvements in the other and by embracing this connection, we can work towards achieving a state of balance and resilience which is really the true foundation of a happy life.
Physical activity plays a powerful role in supporting mental health. Regular movement—whether it's walking, biking, yard work —it all helps. It's one of the most effective and natural ways to care for your mind.
Your mental health also affects your physical wellbeing. Take time to relax, meditate, stay connected with others, think positively, and enjoy time in nature.
One thing we all can do is be kind to ourselves and others. We are all worthy of care, support, and hope—no matter where we are on our journey. What matters most is not achieving perfection, but the small steps we take towards it.
